Charles Schwartz, Principal
Acquisitions

Mr. Schwartz is Co-Chairman and co-founder of Avanti Properties Group and is a leading land investor in the US. He has acquired, financed, managed, and sold residential and commercial land in over 30 markets in 13 states. In addition to extensive experience as a land investor, Mr. Schwartz has developed single-family houses and managed and developed multi-family, industrial, retail, and office properties.

Mr. Schwartz has a BComm degree from Concordia University in Montreal (formerly Sir George Williams University).

Donald E. Loeb, Principal
Portfolio Management

Mr. Loeb is Co-Chairman and co-founder of Avanti Properties Group and has been an investor with Mr. Schwartz for over 30 years. Mr. Loeb is responsible for all portfolio administration, including monitoring and communicating financial performance of Avanti partnership investments, as well as client communications. He is the President and Chief Compliance Officer of Avanti Securities Corporation, an SEC-registered limited market dealer.

Mr. Loeb is on the Dean’s Advisory Council of the Schulich School of Business at York University and the Advisory Board of the Program in Real Property. He is a Director of Humber River Regional Hospital and Chair of its Building Committee. Mr. Loeb also serves as a Director of Opta Minerals, Inc. and of the offshore funds of Halcyon Asset Management.

Mr. Loeb earned a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University and an Honors BA in business administration from The Richard Ivey School at the University of Western Ontario.

Marvin Shapiro, Principal
Acquisitions

Mr. Shapiro, President and CEO of Avanti Properties Group, joined Avanti in 1990 as an acquisitions partner to help capitalize on the land investment opportunities presented by the real estate downturn of the early 1990s. In addition to his acquisitions and dispositions activities, Mr. Shapiro coordinates Avanti’s strategic planning and financing activities. Mr. Shapiro has over 20 years of experience in land investing and lending, including extensive joint venture negotiations.

Prior to joining Avanti, Mr. Shapiro was a senior lending officer for Chemical Bank and was their real estate liaison with Texas Commerce Bank. He also worked for the Harlan Company, a real estate consulting and development firm.

Mr. Shapiro has an MBA in finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University and received a BA with Honors in economics from the University of Michigan.

JoAnn Hanson, Principal
Investor Relations

Ms. Hanson joined Avanti in 1990 to establish a land investment program for institutional investors. She co-founded Avanti Investment Advisors, Inc. (AIA), an SEC-registered investment advisor, in 1992 and is its majority shareholder.

Ms. Hanson is responsible for institutional investor relations and for coordinating performance reporting and portfolio management. She has over 30 years of experience in real estate acquisitions, finance, dispositions, and asset management, and institutional client relations. Prior to joining Avanti, Ms. Hanson was a managing director of Lazard Frères & Company and a Vice President for J.P. Morgan Investment Management Inc.

Ms. Hanson is a member of the Real Estate Advisory Council of New York State Common Retirement Fund. She is Chairman of the Tuxedo Park Planning Board. She has an MBA from Wharton Business School and a BA from Yale (Summa cum laude).

Andrew Dubill
Vice President, Investments

Mr. Dubill is an acquisitions officer, joining Avanti in 2008. He was previously the staff director of the National War Powers Commission, co-chaired by former Secretaries of State James Baker and Warren Christopher, and an associate with the law firm K & L Gates.

He has a JD from the University of Virginia and an AB from Princeton (Magna cum laude).
